The photos confirm it is like the wheelbarrow in the photo I posted.
I see the makers plate lists several patent numbers but can’t read them. It might be worth looking them up. -

We are a horticultural and garden machinery club so would not really have knowledge of Lister D prices. You would be better to contact a stationary engine club.

The Howard Bantam had several different engines over the years. Early models had a Villiers Mk25c, later a Howard AC engine was fitted. Other engines included BSA, Villiers 4 stroke B&S etc.
A photograph of the engine on your machine will help identify it. A 2 stroke can usually be identified by the lack of any means of adding oil to the sump…[Read more] -

The April issue is delayed due to an outbreak of Covid at the printers leaving them short staffed. The magazine will be mailed out as soon as possible.

The split pin is there to stop the rings turning in the groove. As a 2 stroke it is important that the ring gap does not line up with any of the ports in the cylinder bore, this could happen if the rings did not have the split pin to prevent then moving.

The break in the piston is probably where the broken ring came out. It would be worth cleaning the piston to see how bad the scoring is. You will need new piston rings, not sure if the break in the piston will cause ring failure again as ring will not be supported by groove in piston at that point.

When the engine is running you should see the rear pto turning. With engine running when you pull on clutch lever the pto should stop. Note the series 3 Monrotiller has two levers that look like clutch levers, one is the clutch the other operates the reverse gear which is located on left hand side of gearbox towards the rear.
A workshop manual is…[Read more] -

Yes next magazine will be mid to late June so too late for you. An online auction would be your best option or maybe the Road Roller Association can help. It is certainly too good to scrap.

When I have stripped one of these engines the piston comes out via the bottom of the cylinder and goes back in the same way. There is a chamfer on the bottom of the cylinder to aid getting the piston rings and piston in. I don’t recall seeing a split pin but will have to look at an engine I have in bits at present. It could be the pin that stops…[Read more]
