charlieKeymasterJon,
photos of gearbox internals showing gear selector mechanism. I would suspect the gear selector shaft MT569 may be rusted in the gear selector fork MT568. There is a spring and ball in the selector fork which might be rusted too, under the split pin. The only way to access these components is to split the gearbox, if you do this there is a nut and bolt underneath at front that is easy to miss, 9 fixings in total. The two halves will need gently persuading to come apart.June 9, 2020 at 8:15 am #34666
charlieKeymasterNeil, I wonder what other machines used that same carburettor or at least the same float?

charlieKeymasterEric, it depends what service items you require. Engine parts, ignition system, bearings and seals should be obtainable. Control cables can be made. Other machine specific parts could be a problem however.
A scrap machine as a donor for parts may be the only option.June 9, 2020 at 8:05 am #34664
charlieKeymasterWelcome to the forum. If you have an old id plate to copy then it might be worth contacting Vintage Brass Plates they can do one off plates, but they are not cheap.
If you are planning to show at rallies etc, (Not very likely this year with Covid19), you will need public liability insurance, this is included with VHGMC membership, so well worth joining.June 8, 2020 at 8:09 am #34638
charlieKeymasterThe Albion gearbox is a very compact design, they can be dismantled and rebuilt but I would not recommend it without a manual. Do you know which model of gearbox it is? I do have some manuals.

charlieKeymasterLooking at it, personally I would say no. The only genuine Barford attachment is the red plough all the others look home made.Although it says straight from allotment, it does not say if it is in working order.
Does your allotment need a plough? Would a good rotavator do the job? If so a Merry Tiller might be a better option as if you plough it you will need to do further work to break the ground down.June 4, 2020 at 7:14 am #34583
charlieKeymasterI seem to remember there was a Batric offered for sale in our club magazine last year and Alan Rogers saw it at the South Cerney show.

charlieKeymasterTo replace unobtainable parts there is only one option and that is to have them made, not a cheap exercise.

charlieKeymasterOlder gardening books suggest cutting large tubers, however more recent books advise against this.
Will be a couple of weeks at least before you see any sign of growth.May 30, 2020 at 7:25 am #34527
charlieKeymasterThe nut in centre of flywheel should go loose then start to tighten again as it pulls the flywheel off the taper. Beware removing the flywheel will require resetting the timing on assembly as there is no key on crankshaft. Timing is easiest to do with cylinder head removed to accurately measure position of piston.

charlieKeymasterThe original tyres were specific to the Allen Scythe I believe, as the lugs on the edge were different, longer on one side of the tyre. Never heard anyone say anything about the beads been different. I know car wheels are different for tube or tubeless fitting but thought the beads were the same.

charlieKeymasterWith gearbox in gear and input shaft locked to prevent it turning, if you turn one half shaft does the other one turn in the opposite direction? This will confirm halfshafts and diff are in good order, no major failure.
If you turn both together in the same direction with gearbox in gear does the input shaft turn or try to turn? -
