I found a numerical price list at the back which unfortunately only goes up to 13703. It would be handy to find a newer catalogue which might have 17529 in it.

    Maybe.
But it is going to need every line looking at to find a specific part number.

I believe edit function has a time limit. This enables amendments to be made just after entering post, but prevents changes later, which may alter what someone else has already read, if that make sense.
Those with admin access can edit at any time, this enables any inappropriate content to be removed.

Andy is right, I have had a look and found 86 3519 is connecting rod bush big end for a BSA 220cc unit, model D. However that engine had a flywheel magneto.

Have you checked to see that you have a spark at the plug? It is not unknown for a new plug to be a dud.

It might be worth sending some photos and information to Patrick Knight for him to write an article to go in Stationary Engine magazine.

If the choke is operating on its own it sounds as if it is loose, wear around spindle could be allowing air to be sucked in as would wear around throttle spindle. This will alter mixture and make it impossibe to set it correctly.

I have manuals for machine and engine, drop me a pm with your e mail address and I will send copies. From memory the only clutch is for drive to wheels. Cutter bar may be tight making it difficult to turn engine, well worth removing belt to see and free up cutter bar if necessary.

A very good selection of machines and attachments.

Are there any patent numbers on the engine? The original Rotoscythe was made by Power Specialities of Maidenhead. Looking on the patents website might give a clue or answer.

Graham welcome to the forum. The Museum of English Rural Life (MERL) at Reading have records for Allen Scythe machines and should be able to give the information you require.
Your question would have been better as a new topic, avoids two similar but different topics getting mixed up.

That is a very useful link, loads of information.
There is a Clinton Service and Maintenance Manual (revised 1978) in the VHGMC archive which contains service data and parts lists for 400 series engines. It is about 160 pages in total.
