charlieKeymasterA little experimenting, with the baler twine removed, and it is now clear how the wheel locks in up or down positions. To lock it up pin 41 in diagram above locks in the two cutouts in front of the chassis legs. To lock it down, the slot (just visible in diagram) at back of wheel bracket 21 locks over join of the two halves of chain case. Simple and it seems to work.

charlieKeymasterJust picked up a copy from Book Barn for £4-80, they are only 5 miles down the road from me.

charlieKeymasterA search through my literature has turned up a parts manual for later Cadet s/n 08507 onwards.
What I need is an earlier parts manual as my machine is s/n 04838. Part number s for clutch cable and belt.
I now know the single wheel on the front is original and raises another question. How is it supposed to lock in up and down positions? I am sure the length of baler twine currently locking the wheel in place is not original.December 3, 2013 at 4:55 pm #3645
charlieKeymasterThe great advantage of running shrinkpic is all you need to do is select the image and the rest is automatic, no messing about with opening another programme.

charlieKeymasterThanks for confirming model. Part numbers would be a great help.

charlieKeymasterThe photo files are too big. You need to reduce the file size. Using software such as shrinkpic makes it easy.

charlieKeymasterNo and a quick search on Abe books and bookfinder didn’t bring anything up.

charlieKeymasterJoe, it could be because you are not a paid up club member. If you are please send me a personal message with name and address.

charlieKeymasterGlad to hear you got it all apart. Bush BS20 is an oilite bush and should be obtainable from a good bearing supplier. It will help if you can take the old bush, casing and shaft along so they can measure it, unfortunately the parts list only gives the length.

charlieKeymasterI have had a look at one of the Atom 15’s I have and can see the end of the shaft and keyway. Looking at inside flange of the pulley there appears to be a grub screw in line with the keyway.
Have you slackened/removed the grub screw?December 1, 2013 at 8:48 am #3564
charlieKeymasterDA1502F is the part number for that half of the case. Looking at the diagram it appears the pulley is a push fit on the shaft, it may be a case of supporting the pulley, applying heat gently and then pressing it off the shaft. You will not be able to remove the key with the pulley on. I will see if I can get to my Barford Atom 15 buried in the shed and if it is an early one see if I can see how the pulley is held on.

charlieKeymasterPart number BSK 3/16″R is a key for the pulley. Do you know the serial number of your machine? It is probably before A2493.
