It is possible to buy the parts, inner, outer and nipples to make your own. You will need a good soldering iron 100w or more. I have just made throttle cables for a couple of my Monro Tillers. Universal cable kits are available, try your local motorcycle spares dealer. If you know the dimensions etc it might be worth speaking to John Cruse at THe Mower Centre, Hailsham; he does mail order.

I had to do a similar repair to the handles on my 35c. If you can post a photo of the broken handlebar we may be able to offer further suggestions. The 35c does not seem to be as common as the bigger 56a.

From the days before health & safety!!! I seem to remember there was some debate a while ago on the forum about a mechanism for disengaging drive to the blade. If I remember rightly later models did have something.

A difficult one to answer and know what is right. I have often wondered how shiny they would have been when new, did they have a protective lacquer of some sort? But if they are badly corroded and dirty then some cleaning will be required, I suppose the ideal would be something that can remove the dirt and corrosion without too much polishing.

Alan, I was thinking the same, it will get the information to all members and hopefully prompt a few to add other sizes to give a more complete picture. Something that would be useful is an additional column with the modern equivalent size if available.
Hugh 10×2 would be overall tyre diameter and width, 4.00-6 would be rim width and wheel diameter, so not sure it is correct, 2.00-6 would be more likely.

Don’t be too gutted, it may not be too late to save it, at least it has not gone for scrap.

Hugh that is an excellent link, covers just about every way tyre sizes have been and are given.

Just had a thought. It might be a good idea to build a list of machines and what size tyres they use. This would give a better idea of how common or not each size is and where tyres are interchangeable. To make a start I have listed a couple on the attached.

That is a pity, looks like engine number will be only option now.

Have you tried Tyre-Finder or Micheldever Tyre Services? Tyres are one of those parts that can be a real problem to replace on some machines as many are obsolete sizes eg 3.00-6 (12×3) for Monro Tiller and small Barford Atom.
