I’m confused now , it’s gone from “running fine” , to spitting back. Firstly get your carb ultrasonically cleaned , and go from there.

If it was running fine , then highly unlikely you will need carb parts , yes parts are hard to find , but if you look after your machine , it should see your lifetime out……they’re that well built.

It’s certainly a MK20 or 25 , it should be stamped on the cowling ID plate.

Yes , it’s worth a call , EG COLES in Dorset used to do some Kubota spares ,so maybe they’re worth a call also , as well as Small Plant and Garden Spares.

Try Briggsbits , they will need to know the model and sortcode , it’s stamped in the cowling.

If yours has just failed through duff electrical components , they’re very easy do do yourself , I’m now in the process of doing one myself , new coil/condenser and points , and it will see my lifetime and the next persons out.

David , all my life I’ve had a love affair with twostrokes , and still to this day love getting my Howard 700s out , if nothing more than to hear that lovely sound , I also have a Holder E6 with a Sachs 201 twostroke.beutiful machine.

Indeed there were David , I had thought of that , but figured the revs difference between those and the Blackburne fourstroke would have required different gearing.

Geoff , out of sheer curiosity you say that early Trustys had a Villiers engine fitted , may I ask which model that was. The reason I ask is I’ve never seen Viiliers industrial fourstrokes that were made in the mid to late 1930s.The Mk40 that would have had enough power was a post war engine , I’m baffled what engine it could have been.

A couple of days in the workshop on the Emery , valves re-faced and re-seated , bore honed and cleaned , it now turns over quite nicely. Magneto sorted , nice blue spark , just waiting delivery on one or two very minor parts , and I see no reason why the engine shouldn’t be up and running quite soon
As for the worn rotor shaft issue , Emery’s…[Read more] -

The only machine that springs to my mind that had an optional “proper” difflock was the Howard 700 , as Charlie says all manner of manufacturers offered the ratchet style.

Morning Charlie , no mine is different to yours , it has what I think is a JAP 350 sidevalve engine , it’s definately JAP , crankcase is stamped , and JAP embossed in the cast alloy cowling. It looks exactly the same engine as one fitted to one of the early Atco mowers , which had Atco-JAP embossed in the cowling.
I haven’t looked close enough yet…[Read more] - Load More
