Hi, just a note for admin, I received an email notification today of a new private message through the forum, turned out to be a spammer at work (african female, need money, love you long time etc etc).
Not sure if there is anything you can do, just to make you aware.
Thanks,
Joe. -

Stuart,
That’s interesting you mentioned that, my engine has had a +040thou rebore, so will that affect the timing settings? -
joegrgraham replied to the topic Briggs and Stratton Carb. in the forum Pedestrian operated machines 9 years, 8 months ago
From day one with this machine, the carb has been ‘difficult’.
Looking at the american websites, the FloJet carb has a pretty bad reputation, the alloy casting of the body is pretty poor (it is a wartime machine) and none of the needles and butterflies fit snugly, everything flops about a bit, I think a number of small innaccuracies make for one…[Read more] -

Hi Charlie,
That’s my next move, I remember an article in Tractor magazine where he was chasing a similar problem in a Barford atom.

Afternoon everyone,
Just looking for a ‘fresh pair of eyes’ really. My ZZ engined Trusty has been playing up of late.
Today I stripped, cleaned and replaced the carb, after a couple of swings, she started and ran pretty well for about 20 minutes, then it stopped whilst ticking over, restarted no problem, ran for a few more minutes then faded out…[Read more]

Afternoon,
Had a quick look today, tried the suggestions, and not a sausage on the spark front.
Back into the magneto for a look…………
At least I’m becoming adept at stripping a villiers engine! -

Afternoon everyone,
Spent some time with the Bantam today.
Put her all back together, pulled the rope, cough, pulled again, and she fired!!!(briefly).
Pull again, cough, pull, pull, pull, rope slips, hit hand on vice, say bad words, pull and nothing!
Plug out, no spark. Throw away plug, try a different one, nice blue spark. Plug in, pull and…[Read more] -

Good Friday was always the traditional spud planting day, cat in hells chance this year!!!
The other old idea was to pull down your breeches and sit on the ground, if it was too cold for your cheeks, it was too cold for the spuds!. -

Thanks Stuart,
I’ve set the timing tonight, as you’ve suggested. Just got a couple of little jobs to do on the head, before it goes back together, so will keep you informed as and when.

Evening all,
Firstly may I apologize for missing the AGM, I was planning to attend, then totally forgot…)
I am slowly emerging from hibernation now and today I ventured into the garden, the plot is finally starting to dry up, time to get it turned over….
The Trusty still refuses to start (must sort that carb) and the Merry Tiller started…[Read more] -

Thanks chaps.
I did consider the Jap, but if I’m being honest, I want to try something a little different!.
Alan, do you know what model of Petter they used?.
I know a diesel is a heavier lump, but I’m sure it could be counteracted with some ballast on the rear. It’ll be a case of a bit of R and D I think.
I do like the diesel idea, especially as…[Read more] -

Hi all,
Firstly may I apologize to any purists, lest I offend sensibilities!
I am getting fed up rebuilding the woeful Flo-jet carb on my Briggs engined Trusty, so am considering options.
Option one is to find an alternative carb, maybe a Solex etc.
Option two is to swap the engine completely. I’m considering either a Lister/Petter diesel, or,…[Read more]

I think I’ve got it…………..
In this age of ‘Elf and Safety (boom boom),
It is a bracket that goes on the rear of the sleigh, the orange flashing light goes on top and the aperture visible in the latest pic is for the reversing camera lens, with the wire clip holding the cable so it doesn’t get tangled in the tinsel.
The reversing camera…[Read more]

Regarding recent comments about the ethanol content of petrol, there have been a few letters in Stationary Engine magazine on the same topic.
As well as the commercially available products such as redex etc, there has been mention of mixing approx 5% kerosene and or 1% ish of 2-stroke oil into your petrol.
Has anyone tried any of these methods,…[Read more] -

Thanks Alan,
I’ll have to have a look at the engine and let you know.
Yes, it is in really good condition, starts first pull and apart from the belt deteriorating, doesn’t look like it’s done a great deal of work.

Picked up this little beauty this morning.
Wolseley Merry Tiller, serial number M 46907.
I must say it was a very rash purchase, I don’t know what came over me, totally out of character, I’ve bought a machine that actually works!!!
I need to go and lie down…………………….

Thanks Alan,
Can’t read it at the moment, its a bit rusty/oily!.
Now, how do I get the flywheel off, so I can get at the points?, I’ve got the 3 screws out, but as its aluminium, I dont want to put the puller on it.

Hi all,
Just started on my Colwood, first question, where should I look for a serial/model number on the JAP engine, I will need a carb kit at the very least. The carb is a Zenith type 13T (I think).
Thanks,
