Bill’s Wife Brenda phoned today to say that Bill had passed away peacefully yesterday at home with his family around him.
I am sure a good many of you will remember Bill with his David Brown 2Ds and particularly the unique industrial ( towpath tractor) version of the marque.
Bill regularly brought items to GDSF in the working area, latterly he…[Read more] -

Hello Barryg
I think your best bet is to replace the coil as recommended, the difference can be remarkable, even with a coil that is apparently working.
I would try John Cruse first at ‘the mower centre’ Vicarage Road, Hailsham, East Sussex first, he is a club member who has vast stocks of our sort of spares, and he has helped me with odd coils…[Read more]

Hello Ben.
I painted my Mk 1 Clifford with – Corrofast coatings, David Brown Red Gloss D508081D
It was a pretty close match I would call it a dark Ruby colour,Another close match in aerosol is ‘rustoleum’ ‘cherry red’ multi purpose aerosol.
I found it a bit on the thin side with not very good coverage. I meant to say the spray tank in the…[Read more] -

Looks a ‘proper job’ Charlie, is the central heating installed yet? I was releived to see that the washing line has survived ‘ ordeal by shed builder’.
I bet you can’t wait for the boys to vacate your garage ! -

Apart from the mentioned engine problems, the rest of the machine appears to be in excellent original condition, and fitted with the wider rotavator unit, which is not so common. Good luck with it. The 28B engine can be a bit ‘fussy’ if not tuned and timed correctly, the carb is prone air leaks which cause backfiring and spitting back through the…[Read more]

Hello again Moggyjim.
I too have had cardioversion, and survived the ordeal!!
My 700 is not so easy to start as it has Hirth D23 diesel engine, but goes like a train when it is running.

Hi Moggyjim.
Do you need me to send you a clutch cable to copy, or I could send it to John Cruse if you prefer.
I have lugged wheelbands that slip over my rubber tyres, they work a treat! sadly no ploughs now, only the one on my machine.
If you need big wheels to take 6.00×16 tyres Massey 35 front wheels have the same stud pattern, but you will…[Read more] -

Hi there moggyjim
John Cruse at the Mower centre, Hailsham, East Sussex (01323 842477) has mad 700 clutch cables for me in the past, not sure if he has a pattern, as I have always sent him an old one to copy. If you have not got a pattern, I may still have one here you can borrow, let me know.
I have a Howard 352 with the jockey pulley…[Read more]

Hello there Stephen.
The single cylinder tractor is not a President, but it is a Winget, there are several members of the club with Wingets, I am sure one will contact you soon.

I can recommend the DVD that Charlie has compiled, which has old black and white film of 1930s Geo Monro products featured. of particular interest to Rototiller owners is some footage of the Rototillers 3, 5, and 10 in action, and demonstrations of various Rototiller attachments in action as well. a good 20 minutes of interest.

Has anyone re-timed a Simar type 5 ? I need to time mine, but have no information. It has an ML magneto fitted, which is original as far as I can see.
Thanks

This machine was seen at our annual ‘crank down’ recently, handy as it is self propelled and able to be towed behind a car.
