hillsider replied to the topic Pegson Marlow Pump impeller removal. in the forum Projects 12 years, 2 months ago
From memory the impeller will have a parallel shaft with a square section keyway and the nut is separate from the impeller and has a lock washer securing it.
I have just been having a rummage among some books that I have from my days working on such things and found a cross sectional parts diagram for the pumps that Lister Blackstone used and…[Read more] -

I have seen Pegson pumps as fitted to Blackstone marine diesel engines and just to be helpful they can be left or right handed dependent on the engine direction so tread care fully when you attack the impeller nut, I would suggest you lock the impeller (not the engine) and shock the spanner or socket with a hammer to release it. The two holes in…[Read more]

According to information contained in the book Seventy Years Of Garden Machinery by the author Brian Bell the Ransomes Model Fourteen (petrol and an electric version) was introduced in 1964 and was in production until 1969 when it was withdrawn.
The book also states that earlier versions of this mower used a BSA 65cc four stroke engine but was…[Read more] -

Whilst not familiar with the sealing arrangement used on your Honda, to fall back on general engineering experience I would ask what material is the inner seal carrier made from? If it is metal then I would use a sleeve and bush retainer from the likes of Loctite or Granville, but you will only get one chance to position it correctly (this may…[Read more]

hillsider replied to the topic Coil Testing in the forum Projects 12 years, 2 months ago
If you suspect that the ignition coil is causing problems then going to the breaker less ignition is the way to go I recently converted the B&S engine on a Mountfield garden tiller and it transformed its starting reliability. Be aware though that here is more than one coil to choose from so be careful to order the one to suit your Model,Type and…[Read more]

Guarding against spammers must a bit like painting the Forth Bridge I suppose!!
Apart from causing problems to a site that they chose to latch on to I find it difficult to understand their objectives, this particular batch seemed to consist of a whole bunch of links to sites all gathered together and for what reason? your guess is as good as…[Read more]

On the subject of diesel injectors one way to test them and be able to see what is happening at the nozzle end is to remove the injector from the engine, reconnect it to the injector pipe then crank the engine over while observing the fuel delivery pattern from the nozzle.
All is fine so far but due to the high operating pressure of the injector…[Read more] -

We often had contractors in at work building new terminal buildings or installing heat and vent systems and walking around their site towards the end of a contract there would be nuts and bolts, lengths of threaded bar(studding) etc all laying around left over from the job and about to be skipped. We used to gather up such treasures and return them…[Read more]

hillsider replied to the topic cleaning galvanized metal in the forum General talk and discussion 12 years, 3 months ago
I have not tried it myself (yet) but I have heard good reports from folk who have used undiluted traffic film remover as used in pressure washers to clean commercial vehicles for cleaning metal parts.
The folk that I have spoken to tell me that parts left to soak in the product will come out with no rust or paint left on them so if you do try…[Read more]

I think many of us can hold our hands up to the sin of wearing our slippers in the shed so let’s all learn by your misfortune.
