Hello, Looks as if you all had a really great time. I particularly like the display with the push hoes, wooden wheelbarrow and boxes of produce etc, that really adds another dimension to the line up.
Thanks Geoff for the pic of the Rover P6 Estate, a rare version of this model as historically Rover did not produce estates or allow chassis/bodies…[Read more] -
stevewoollas replied to the topic Anyone know what this is a hoe of sorts in the forum Garden implements 9 years, 5 months ago
Hello Sam,
It may be the usual usage for this hoe is not hoeing but being shuffled backwards and forwards to create a fine seed bed prior to sowing. The serated bar could be an addition an appears to rotate to a degree. With the teeth turned downwards into the soil the hoe could be drawn along to create the drill in the seed bed.–Steve -

An interesting development in the Jalo story.
I notice the Westo is available from Westbourne Garden Centre and that although the address is in the Bournemouth area quite different to the advertised addresses for the Jalo company.
I suspect this is a form of platform manufacturing or OEM branding, a practice which still occurs today. This is where…[Read more] -

Although it is a little difficult to gauge the size from an item from a photograph this item appears very similar to something I have just seen in the depths of the shed which is the mounting bracket for a Trusty belt pulley wheel.

Don’t you worry about Fenland Dawn, Eve, Gail or any of the Chairmans other favourite members of the Fenland Ladies Guild. They are all well and hibernating until spring although very disappointed none of them received a return Christmas card from Chair, but then again, did you? No, he seems very mean on the Christmas front.
It’s good in his post…[Read more] -

We are busy sorting out tools for the VHGMC display area. This year will involve a specific theme involving mainly tools which have not been displayed at Tractor Newark before, in fact most of them have not seen daylight in the last six years so much time is currently being spent dusting them off. Hope the themed idea works.
Also Newark will be…[Read more] -

I’ve got it.
I’ve seen these when visiting Ravenhall. They belong to a suit of armour which stands in the Great Hall in the baronial mansion. These sections make up the shin protectors and fit over the elbow joints and knee joints to provide total protection when running away waving ones arms in despair.
It all comes back to me now, our Chair dons…[Read more] -

Hello Pete,
It was me who spoke with you just after you bought the Colwood Powerbarrow on Saturday and i’m glad you found the VHGMC website and Forum. Hope fully it will prove useful to you.
My grandson, Drewboy, took three pictures of the Colwood so hopefully you don’t mind me adding them on here.
Good luck with your restoration–Steve -

Hello Pete, What a super truck to carry vintage horticultural tractors on. Commer PB pick ups are rare now and I couldn’t tell you the last time I saw one in the flesh. Most PB pick ups had fixed pressed steel half sides which held water quite well until the truck floor rotted away. Your dropsider is the builders body specifically designed for…[Read more]

The point for the Greyhound plough, which yours appears to be looking at the photo, is identical to that of the Ferguson plough, (not MF). You may be able to obtain one from Westlake Plough Spares at Peterborough or Old Twenty Parts, Derbys..

Listen Members, Chair is at it again posting all these pictures of the Three Wise Men is just a ruse to deflect attention away from his real activities.

Sorry Steve but I cannot help with a date on this other than the majority of British Companies producing push hoes did so in the post war years when following the end of the war a lot of factories had little work and were very inventive in terms of simple fabrication.
