Louis / Dave,
Although the carburettor may need to be a Amal 244/873 it is more likely it should have been a Amal 356/1 and I believe the pump would need to be Amal 150/861A
I would need to see photographs of the engine to be more accurate.
Regards

Louis,
Both the carburettor and fuel pumps are unique to the Ransomes MG and are scarce items.
I have the majority of new spares for the tractors but currently neither of the two items but if you email me at njarrett@btinternet.com and I will send you a list.

ransomes256 replied to the topic Wico Series A Magneto oiling in the forum General talk and discussion 6 years, 2 months ago
Keith,
No such thing as a stupid question just one you need an answer to.
In general the magneto only needs a little oil and only about every 200 hours so I guess with a vintage machine not that often. Use engine oil and only a few drops required assuming lubricated when serviced.
I use a conventional hand oil can but it is not easy to get access…[Read more] -

Jonathan,
I have always been puzzled by this.
You are correct about the move but not the colour. Never under stood why.
If you consider the ploughs were always the lighter blue.
As you know I have had many new original parts for the later machines and they are all the darker Orwell blue.
Nearly all owner restorers paint with a gloss finish but…[Read more] -

Jonathan,
You have the colours the wrong way round.
Orwell is the darker blue and Nacton the lighter.
So Orwell is on late MG5, MG6 and MG40
Nacton is on MG2 and early MG5

ransomes256 replied to the topic Ransomes MG oil seals – which way round? in the forum Ride-on machines 6 years, 7 months ago
Parsnip.
You are correct the oil seals in the weight carrying rollers, rear wheel hubs and front drive hubs are all to be installed in reverse to normal practice. (spring facing out) It is designed so the oil opens the seal and pushes the dirt away then closes down to keep it out. Any mud pushing against the seal then forces it down tighter. This…[Read more] -

Bob,
As you already know I do not have Sachs pistons or know of a source (would like to know if you find one).
As an alternative have you considered having the barrel sleeved so you can continue to use your current piston?

The insulator is to keep the points spring and the wire connections away from the body. Also need to check the 2 screws that hold the cover spring clips do not contact make contact with any of the wires. Check the stop tabs are not shorted where bolted through the body.

ransomes256 replied to the topic Grease Nipples and connectors in the forum Help and information 6 years, 8 months ago
Keith,
The actual gun connectors are the same size regardless of the fixing thread.
There are many fixings available. 3/16″ up UNF and BSF, 1/8″ up BSP, 6mm up metric, plus push in.
Oil guns are not cheap. Look up Myford oil gun or Wanner for examples.

ransomes256 replied to the topic Grease Nipples and connectors in the forum Help and information 6 years, 8 months ago
Keith,
I have only ever found 3 versions of a grease nipple apart from the thread or pressed in fixing.
The 3 being a standard ball shape where the grease gun connector locks on and need pulling to one side to release it. The second is a plain end with a slight taper where the gun needs to be pressed on and normally needs a push action pump…[Read more] -

ransomes256 replied to the topic Magneto repair or replace WICO – Gem JAP engine in the forum Pedestrian operated machines 6 years, 9 months ago
Tim,
The Wico A is an easy magneto to overhaul.
As above check the points are clean and that there is an insulator strip around the ouside of the points spring. Make sure the stop tabs / buttons are not shorted. Plus of course it is dry.
The chances are it is the condenser that has failed.
I can supply new points and condensers if you need them.
A…[Read more] -

I do not understand why you cannot adjust the points to give a larger gap unless either the base part of the points is not able to pass through the slot in the carrier body or the spring heal is contacting the condenser terminal and restricting the opening.
However, to confirm the magneto is fitted with the correct cam the slot should be about 2…[Read more] -

No spark with new condenser!
Have you put the insulator strip round the outside of the points spring so it cannot short out to the magneto body?
Are the stop tabs / buttons clear of the mag body?
Have you had the stop tabs undone and are the through stud insulators in place and not shorted?
If you have a multimeter the HT to ground reading should…[Read more] - Load More
