I’ve got a Fleming flat roller at work, not very old at all, and that has wooden bearing blocks.
Someone already mentioned about the abrasive nature of soil, also, due the infrequent use of implements like rollers and discs, the wood doesnt suffer from rust and seizing like conventional bearing do.Joe.

Sorry to hear about your ‘visitors’, it is certainly worth getting a trail camera. They do take some very good quality videos/pictures, they work through infra-red, so no flashes, and they can be tucked away very discreetly. Just got to remember to change the batteries regularly.

Hi all,
I’m sure I’ve said this before, but after a recent experience, I’d like to repeat it.
I ve recently been browsing a well known traction engine forum, and I was shocked by the amount of ignorance, vitriol and general ‘male bovine leavings’ being spouted by supposed adults with a shared hobby!.
Thankfully, the VHGMC is the total opposite.…[Read more] -

Lovely truck!
Don’t see many of them about now, yours looks to be in good condition.
May I suggest lots and lots of waxoyl in every possible orifice, try to keep a lid on the the 1970’s British vehicle rot!
Good luck,
Joe.

I have seen a machine like this before, I have a hunch that it is a French SIFT tractor, but I stand to be corrected.

Good company, the chance to use the Trusty without fear of squashing anything, AND, the Trusty ran faultlessly all weekend. Who could ask for more?.

joegrgraham replied to the topic Trusty seat attachment weight in the forum Help and information 10 years, 5 months ago
Further to Geoffs answer, it certainly wont be a problem weight wise, just be aware that, depending on its condition, there is no guarantee the wheels will want to come off. When I got mine, I had to take it to the forge to shift one of the wheels.
Unbolting the axle will make it small enough to fit.Joe.

Thanks Guys,
Next time I go out to the shed, I’ll probably start again with some new wire.
As some of my other villiers engines don’t have the kill switch on the backplate, am I right to assume that this isn’t essential, I’m thinking to leave it off for the time being in order to simplify things.Joe.

Hi all,
I am having an issue with the magneto rebuild of my villiers mk 15.
I have a new coil, condensor, points and HT lead, I’ve put the wires back as I found them (there’s only three so I’m sure even I couldn’t mess that up!) Condensor to points, coil to points and the wire from the coil to the brass screw in the backplate (kill switch).
But,…[Read more] -

Evening all,
Time for an update.
The gearbox internals have all had a trip through the parrafin bath and have been loosely reassembled, looking in really good condition.
Just need to sort out the repair to the clutch release lever and source a new friction plate and the gearbox can go back together. The hubs have been stripped, freed off, greased…[Read more]

Good evening everyone.
Lovely day today, so I’ve been taking advantage of the sunshine, mowed the lawns, re-done a border, had a Braai etc.
I did sneak into the shed for a bit, managed to get the gearbox split, and it doesn’t actually look too bad.
The clutch is looking pretty manky and we have the broken clutch lever to deal with, but the…[Read more]

Nice machines, 1950’s styling at it’s best!.
I always think they look somewhere between a lawn mower and a childs tricycle! I think my boss would think I’d finally flipped if I turned up to mow the lawns on one. I’ve got to get me one………..
