The gearbox / chassis reminds me of a Colwood, what is the engine? Clinton?

joegrgraham replied to the topic Hard to get Trusty in gear in the forum Pedestrian operated machines 9 years, 2 months ago
With my single speed Trusty, I sometimes get the same thing.
I have found it is due to the clutch drum rotating through friction (the belt pulley can easily be stopped by hand) a little copper grease on the shaft where the drum runs should help.

Dave, most of the usual paint suppliers list Orwell blue (craftmaster, tractol etc) the tin I just got is Kramp brand bought through Westlake ploughs.

Just been looking at paint catalogues, (craftmaster paints) there appear to be two paints under ransomes blue, Orwell blue and nocton blue.
Which is correct for an mg2?. -

So, I got bored today and decided to start wire-brushing the tub.
And yes, I emerged from the shed looking like a Smurf….. -

Final drives are stripped and cleaned, got some primer on a couple of bits.
Tonight I split the PTO unit in order to reseal the joint in the casings.
Where the engage/disengage slider passes through the front casing, there appears to be some sort of seal. Is this an oilseal or a cork washer? and is it replaceable?

Thanks for the info Neil.
I was misled by the bearings being full of grease on disassembly.
On reflection, given the state of the oilseals, I think the previous ‘restorer’ must have used grease to try and patch up leaks. -

The first (of many) parcels arrived from Neil, so have been able to get the main gear assembly back together.
I’m still waiting to get the tub blasted, so in the meantime, I have made a start stripping, cleaning and assessing the final drives.
The first side will require one new bearing and oilseals, the rest of the bearings will be ok with a…[Read more] -

Dave, I’m on the Gloucestershire/Wiltshire border, near Cirencester.
You’re more than welcome to come and have a look if you’re local.
If not, I can take pictures of anything you require and email them to you. PM me.

Thanks for the info Neil.
As it was built during the war, I suppose it is feasible ransomes were using what they could get their hands on, bits dug out of the stores, maybe a defunct machine that had been returned to the factory was cannibalized?.
Dave, Charlie has close links with Reading I believe.

Hi all.
Please could I have some thoughts regarding my serial number.
My data plate reads 551.
However, stamped twice into the gear assembly, and etched into the crownwheel, is the number 580!.
To further confuse, the date stamped into the crownwheel is 4-37?!?.
Firstly, assuming that 580 is a serial number, it would seem more likely that the…[Read more] -

Hi all.
It’s been a while, but the in-laws are gone, the shed move has been completed and the trusty is running.
So I can now do a bit on the ransomes!.
My man who will do the sand blasting is combining at the moment so in the meantime I have stated cleaning some of the gearbox parts.
With the crud removed, the number stamped into the gears…[Read more] -

Hi all,
Those who were at lotmead will remember the trusty that perplexed everyone by refusing to start.
Well, after trying just about everything, with no success, I put on a new plug cap, and it started!! I don’t know how or why, but after a bit of tinkering with the carb setting, it ran as if nothing has happened!
Looks like it might make it…[Read more] - Load More
