Hello Andy.
I believe the correct oil to be straight 30 HD as the oil pump is calibrated to deal with this viscosity. It has always worked well in mine, maybe straight 40 HD would be ok in very hot weather. You can fill up to the top of the filler pipe, as fitted to the Howard 700, I am assuming that is what it is fitted to.
Regards

Jon Cruse is available in working hours, and runs a postal service too.

He does have a website too, there could be a link from this site. -

Yes Charlie.
You may remember that when we organised ‘the first ‘Tilmow’ event, Alan Cullen came and gave us a filmshow in a rebuilt Chapel, I am not sure if it is still there.
But it is an interesting venue. -

It may be worth contacting Patrick Knight, he was the editor at the time, he may remember who submitted the article.

There should be a small coil spring at the base of the control rod, which makes the twisting motion ‘spring loaded’ so that they lock in position.

Further to last posting, I have just been to the new gallery and found 4 photos of Bantam lawnmower attachments.
Well done Alan, the gallery is going to be most useful, particularly to new recruits.

Hi there
If it is a Howard Bantam then the mower unit bolts on in place of the rotor box, the mower actually sticks out in an offset position to one side. They cut very well, the only problem I found is that if the mower encountered a bump in the ground or some other obstruction, the machine was nearly wrenched out of your hands as it wanted to…[Read more] -

The adjuster ‘bolt’ when tightened rocks the engine to tighten the belt, and when the engine returns to the resting position the brake block slows and stops the pulley, to prevent grinding of gears.

Hi there.
There is normally a very varied collection of Horticultural machinery at Malvern. This year there will be a large showing of Ransomes crawlers and allied equipment. At Dorset, the club stand is normally adjacent to the horticultural working area, near the working tractors, sorry you missed us.

Hi there
On the PDF drawing you will see part No 240, you should be able to loosen the locknut and screw in part No 240 to tighten the belt, if that does not work it is probably the wrong belt.Hope this helps
ChrisPS I tightened up mine today after rebuilding the engine.

You will find a decompressor lever under the frame just below the rotor selector lever, lift this and hold it up whilst swinging the starting handle, when you have a bit of momentum, release the lever when you are on an upward stroke. Just plain unleaded petrol.
Good luck.

I would maintain at least half a tank full at all times.
When the engine is running you should see oil bleeding back into the tank, in spurts. Just take off the oil filler cap, look inside you will see a short stub of pipe just under the cap, this is where the oil should return into the tank. don’t expect a big gush, as it only just comes through…[Read more] - Load More
