The turf Tracs are great machines I have two 425 and a 420 with loader. I keep meaning to test the road speed with a sat nav to find out if it is fast enough to take on a tractor road run ! I have had my 420 up on the front wheels several times they are so capable that you always tend to push against the limits. really was a good show very well…[Read more]

My neighbour has an MG5 with pto to drive a saw bench , he has fitted a new electric start diesel engine as he was struggling with crank handles due to arthritis he is well pleased with it. Spares both new and used are readily available, Neil Jarrett is very helpful.

Very interesting to read Alistair Holts article in this latest Cultivator, I have often wondered what the different engine number letters were about. I have 5 Drayton engines on various Ransomes machines so I will have to have a look more closely at the engine codes. Please can you write a similar article Alistair on the topic of the Sachs engines…[Read more]

I am hoping to attend with three Ransomes wheeled machines on the basis that these will be exhibited inside tracks, being banned from the exhibition floors.

Iain
The track drive rollers are intended to run completely dry with no grease as this will retain grit and wear away the spindles, the manual instructs that if they become stuck with mud etc that you tap them with a hammer until free, not sure of the timespan of wear but if you are tracking distances pulling timber it may be significant.

Pretty sure it is a homemade conversion. It must have been hairy to drive as I am sure it would nose dive when lifting a load. Unless a clutch has been fitted it would be very hard work driving into a load, slow down select neutral, rev up lift load, slow down select reverse, rev up to start reversing, The rams are very large dia so it would have…[Read more]

I think an A series Wico magneto from a Ransomes MG2 will have similar mounts and sprocket chain drive.

Hi peter I do have a fan assembly and a timing case cover. I do not have a whole magneto, I have a body and rotor which Neil may be able to restore for you if he does not have a whole unit.

Could well have been changed, I would tend to believe the data you have recovered from the id plate and date it at 1951. Just to clarify my last post on oil I should have added that I use sae 20 in the air filters to avoid rich mixture. I use sae 50 in the engine and gearbox and 140 for all the oil nipples and final drives.

Which model of crawler are you trying to date? On my MG2 number 137 the diff stampings show the date in DD/MM/yy format.

If you look around the outer edges of the crown wheels there are a series of numbers one of which will be the date of manufacture.
