Refitted the polished aluminium handles to the frame yesterday.

Refitted the newly painted washers on the rollers, Had to replace the one between the two halves as it had all but corroded away. Also refitted the throw plate to the bottom blade frame.

Painted the last few washers and spacers today, dry within 2-3 hours. The tubes were done yesterday.

Fitted the engine brackets to the crank case and the flywheel cover.

Started the reassembly yesterday, fitted the new bearings in the carriers and fitted the assemblies to the side plates. Also fitted the adjustable front roller carriers.

Did just that and set up a wire line, using some welding wire. Used a bit more wire to hang things on too

Still, I managed to get a couple more bits painted today. Still have both sides, frame, engine mounts, tubes and one or two other bits left

Not quite John, I dont seem to have enough space to put the painted parts aside, so I can paint the rest, and start to reassemble……. I am having to paint, leave it 48 hrs, wrap in bubblewrap, box everything up and put it all away so it doesn’t get overspray on it. Seems I need either a seperate workshop or storage of some description.

Wet sanded the fresh primer on the grass box today. Masked, and wrapped up the front as that didn’t need any work. Eventually got some paint on. To look at, this box looks right and fits right…….. I am just hoping it works right!

Filled and primed, will wet sand it tomorrow and get some paint on it.

I think this has turned out quite well, the grass box is secure, not dragging the ground. The brackets do not foul the cylinder and the grass clippings should make it into the box ok. I will fill the holes from the old brackets, prime and re-paint.

Next task is to set about making brackets to secure the grass box to the mower. I didn’t have any steel wide enough to copy exactly the brackets which are shown in Gareth’s pictures. Here’s the grass box roughly in position, you can see how much extra room has been made by removing 3 inches of the aluminium. The grass clippings should now make it into the box.

Once the frame was secured, I folded and rolled the aluminium around the frame, keeping it tight and tapping it into place.

I decided today was the day to tackle the grass box. Gareth kindly sent me some pictures of his grass box, so that I can try to modify the one I have. Mine, when fitted doesn’t fit securely to the mower as its from a different machine. Also when fitted there is only an inch gap for the grass to be thrown into the box. It would appear I’m going to have to do quite a bit of work to make this box work.…[Read more]

The software/system I and many others use is called ‘shrinkpic’ Just type that into your search box, hit enter. Go to their website, save it as a favorite for next time. Follow the on screen instructions, its quite easy really.

Have now got some colour on the two cylinders I’m keeping and the clutch.

Soaked the rollers overnight in the preservative mix, wiped off the excess and took them out to dry in the sunshine. Have made sure the rags are washed out in soapy water before putting them in the bin.
