charlieKeymasterIf the HT lead pick up is in good condition it should be easy enough to but a length of HT cable to make a replacement.
Starting straps can be made, I don’t know of a supplier. I have used 1 inch wide webbing as used on Land Rover tilts. Leather could also be used.
I will e mail documents to you.May 4, 2020 at 7:33 am #34139
charlieKeymasterHave you tried contacting the Bristol 10 register?

charlieKeymasterGood to know the paint is a good colour match. When I repainted my SIMAR 35 (a longtime ago now), it was brush painted, many coats with lots of rubbing down and a finish with T cut and it was an almost perfect flat finish.

charlieKeymasterWelcome back. You have come to the right place, SIMAR and Geo Monro are my speciality.
Your machine is a model 50 and would have been made in Switzerland, only the 35 and 56 were British built. The 50 is almost the same as a 56, the major difference is the 56 has an additional segment in the gearbox between engine and main gearbox, which houses the reverse gear. The clutches are dog clutches so have little to go wrong with them. The drive pins are different lengths, depending on which wheel the longer one is in determines which gear is selected, high or low, so I am guessing it is the longer pin that is stuck.
If you require operators manual or parts manual let me know your e mail address via a personal message.
I see the miller cover looks as if it has been repaired or fabricated at some time.May 2, 2020 at 3:21 pm #34105

charlieKeymasterI am guessing the claimed pedigree of the Trusty Steed is why the ridiculous price tag. Looking at the sellers other items I wondered how they come to have several ex Kew Transport Museum items? Googling Kew Transport Museum shows the seller was the director of Kew Transport Museum, so it would appear he is selling the museum collection, the YouTube video may give reason why.. see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oog1i6_7YhY

charlieKeymasterIt has probably dissolved due to inter metal corrosion between the aluminium and steel. Something Land Rover owners are well aware of, made worse by the addition of a an electrolyte such as salt water.

charlieKeymasterThere are some very strange prices on that site. There has been a Shay Rotogardener which keeps reappearing listed at a starting price of £1000. The seller has been told on more than one occasion he has decimal point in wrong place.

charlieKeymasterGeoff, yes e bay is probably the best option as there will be a wide audience. Current lockdown rules may be a problem regards collection though.

charlieKeymasterI never took part in YTS but remember them. We think of 1980 as not long ago, forgetting it is now 40 years ago!
Back in the early 1970’s I spent school holidays and weekends working on a farm, virtually no thought about safety, tractors without any roll over protection, MF65, MF135, and Fordson Super Major. It was an accident the farmer had when he hit a gate post with the front wheel of one of the tractors that taught me to never put my thumb inside the steering wheel. When he hit the gatepost the steering wheel spun round and almost ripped his thumb off. A painful and graphic lesson.April 26, 2020 at 7:05 am #34008
charlieKeymasterThe club has to put the health and welfare of members first, 100% the right decision. Looking forward to 2021.
