Interesting comparison between A5 and 56. A5 very heavy on the miller end, to the extent that even on a very shallow setting for depth the rear weight bias makes it dig in too deep and you have to walk along pulling up on handlebars. I’ve seen some A series with wheels at the rear of the miller, presumably they are more effective. 56 on the other…[Read more]

Weather held. Great first day. Now totally worn out. Will be there tomorrow with 56 and 35. Will try to remember to post photos but have to remember to take them first! Best bit was the hog roast bap with stuffing and apple sauce followed by donuts.

Loaded up 56 and A5 for tomorrow. Probably take 35 and 30 Sunday so should have made enough noise by the end of the weekend. What’s anyone else taking?

Well SIMARs and Commer ready, all we need now is the weather. Hopefully forecast will prove to have been overly pessimistic. Otherwise might need a snorkel!

I’m really thinking I must give Weeley a look this year. Especially in view of Charlie’s mysterious post. One question, are there facilities on site? 70 miles in the Commer will necessitate several bottles of water to combat heat in the cab. If not Charlie might not be the only member with something different and rarely seen on show, especially if…[Read more]

Hi chaps
Glad you have got to the bottom of the problem. If it runs ok possibly best not to fiddle with mag as from personal experience they can be difficult to adjust!
Yes, you are right about the pegs. The long one is the one that engages, the short one is a blank to stop soil getting in the hole. If the long one won’t easily engage when you…[Read more] -

Hi Ian and Anthony
Charlie will be able to date accurately from Monro records, but judging from mine, fairly early one , 1949/50 I’d guess.
The carb isn’t like mine but SIMARs were fitted with AMAL carbs. I might be tempted to check timing and magneto before fiddling with carb. I have the timing info. I can send it if you pm me your email address. -

Hi Andy
You have to book in advance. I have contact phone numbers, I’ve pm’ed them to you. Great show, well worth a visit.

Thanks Dave.
I couldn’t remember from last year whether they were sent early or not, didn’t want to miss it! SIMARs will be out in force! -

I sent in my entry for this excellent show earlier in the year but have heard nothing and cheque not cashed. Has anyone got their entry ticket yet?

It actuallylooks not as bad as it seemed in the first photos. Are you tempted to have a bash at restoration, Charlie? I
Easy for me to ask, of course! But there’s no doubt they were well made, for the wheels to be capable of turning after where its been defies belief. Have you any idea how long its been buried? -

Fairly close to mine 560115. Wonder what happened to the Waterperry one? Probably had a harder life than mine!

Yes Charlie, it was. No sound on film but good to see SIMAR as it would have been when nearly new. I’ve seen it before somewhere. Also a Farmers Boy(I think, only a small glimpse).
As for women making better gardeners, not sure, but my mother could handle a Hatz Gem with the best of them, sometimes working all day with it, so maybe a grain of truth to it! -

Nice machine Charlie. I was tempted but a long way from me, and no room in the shed! Must try and sort out the A4 now the weathers warmer.

A big thank you to all involved in putting this event on. Great opener to the season. Gets bigger and better every year. There would be photos but some idiot forgot his phone. Never mind I’m sure someone more sensible than me will post some. Highlight for me was the Petter V4 crawler, what a noise on straight pipes! And 3 David Brown 2Ds. And the…[Read more]
