Just realised. I now have 30, 35, 50, 56 and A5. I reckon that’s just about all types that were regularly sold in U.K. Anyone (ie probably Charlie) know if any others were sold in reasonable numbers? Apart from M series which if I ever get one would really make my day!

Cured fuel leak. She’s a very good runner.

Yes it is the best looking SIMAR in my collection! Won’t stop me using it though. On the French site they say the 50 was manufactured between 12/02/34 and 15/11/35 with only 601 made, so even more confusing. Their serial numbers were 25001 onwards. So if they are right you’d think our English versions would be later, especially thinking about you…[Read more]

Well I’ve collected it. Very tidy machine, been repainted but looks as though it hasn’t done much work in its life. Very straight and no dents. Good runner too. Unfortunately the only missing bit is one of the side plates, yes the one with the id plate so history is a mystery. I see from the French site they predated the 56. What years were the…[Read more]

Just checked photos again. Main brass plate appears to be missing unfortunately.

Hi Charlie
I’ve not seen it in the metal yet, from the photos looks like an engine number then, no photo of main plate if it still exists. I’ll ask again when I’ve collected it! Thanks

In a moment of weakness I seem to have agreed to buy a 50. Pick up hopefully in a couple of weeks. Serial number appears to be 19019. Any chance you have info Charlie?

Very rare Charlie!
Looks like you all had a great weekend. Hopefully I’ll actually get there next year!

VERY sorry not to have got there. Life took over at the last minute. Will try much harder next year, promise!
Can those of us foolish enough not to be there know what Charlie’s mysterious exhibit was? -

I’ll watch! No way I’ll be going for a walk behind a SIMAR, holding up handlebars all the way.

You got me thinking Charlie. I know the 56 hasn’t been resprayed for sure. Not sure about 35. Owners didn’t think it had when I bought it. Both machines stored under cover all their lives. Overspray might indicate a respray, but you’ll see from the photos there’s overspray on the 56 identification plate and on the 35 mag. Clearly Monros were a bit…[Read more]

There’s no doubt they’re missing out. I know some people find some websites daunting, but I tell them if I can do it anyone can! It will be interesting to see if we get any new members posting after your guide. Thanks Alan.

At Little Ellingham a couple of members said they had tried to use forum but couldn’t get the hang of it. They were quite interested when I told them what a great site it is for advice and a chat. Would it be worthwhile putting a very simple guide and set of instructions in The Cultivator? I know a similar thing has been done before but maybe time…[Read more]

Can’t recommend this event enough. Really varied horticultural section, loads of other stuff, whole family went today and had a good time. Thanks to everyone involved for putting on such a friendly event.
