Just noticed that the skimmer has reappeared.
I have no connection to the listing, just saw it and thought it would be of interest to members. -

Did anyone see the ransomes mg based skimmer and dumper that appeared briefly on the auction site this morning?
Very interesting machines, just wondering if either the buyer or seller were club members?

joegrgraham replied to the topic Fuel tank sealer in the forum Help and information 9 years, 4 months ago
There must be a chemical that counteracts the sealer, caustic soda, something like that?.
Or would it be possible to carefully cut out the end or bottom of the tank, sand blast the sealer out and then re braze the section back in? -
joegrgraham replied to the topic Tvo residue in carbs in the forum General talk and discussion 9 years, 4 months ago
Im not familiar with your particular engine, but i do have experience of tvo, and it does sound like you are experiencing one of the reasons tvo fell out of favour.
They need to be working hard to run well on tvo, which means running hot, and it sounds like you are in the limbo period of too hot to run petrol and not hot enough to run tvo.…[Read more] -

I once had a v8 landy that was a pig to start when hot. Turned out it was running a bit too hot and vapourised the petrol in the carb.
Perhaps a similar thing is happening with your mg?.
Are you making your own tvo? What ratio of petrol to kero? As the kero has a much higher Flashpoint have you tried a mix with more petrol? Whats happens if you…[Read more] -

Hi Dave,
Land Rover willing, I should hopefully be with you this year.

I will probably come up on the Friday, so is there a pub nearby for sustenance Friday night?
Cheers,

Charlie, traffic shouldn’t be a problem, I’ll be heading in the opposite direction, and the Spine road is far enough out that it shouldn’t back up too much, if all else fails, I’ll come the back way through Cricklade and Blunsdon.

Hi all,
Looking forward to Lotmead, just working out how to pack the Land Rover!.My Trusty still refuses to start, but I will still bring it along, hopefully some ‘fresh eyes’ may be able to get it going again?!.
I will also bring a few different Trusty implements, so if anyone else is bringing a Trusty, we can try them out.
See you all soon,
Joe.

joegrgraham replied to the topic Ransome Triple Mk4 pertol Mag engine help won't idle in the forum Projects 9 years, 6 months ago
I’m not familiar with this particular engine, however I had similar problems with the running on a B & S ZZ with a Flo-Jet carb.
Check the throttle butterfly, is it worn on the shaft? this will allow the butterfly to flop around, causing the poor idle.
Also check that the needles/jets are seated snugly in the threads, if they are loose in the…[Read more] -

Have you replaced the clutch springs? They are probably weakened, and that wont be helping with the disengagement.

Hi all,
Just a quick update on the Ransome’s.
Progress has been a little slow this week as I have been engaged in matters of Land Rover suspension, however yesterday I managed to get the gear assembly removed, so now the tub is completly stripped.
So now begins the tedious task of cleaning, wire brushing and paint stripping a large pile of…[Read more] -

A bit more progress.
Only the gear assembly to go, just need to shift two very stuck brake band pins, and how do you get to the bottom bolts? There are brake drums in the way…..Found a couple of nasties, I dont think the pinion bearing retainer should look like THAT! (Pic 2). I think a bearing must have failed at some time, one fell apart on…[Read more]

I’m glad I decided to do a full strip-dow .
Got into the final drives tonight, and they clearly havent seen oil for a while!.
The left hand pinion gear is badly worn and the right hand bull gear fell off! Due to a seized bearing.
I would upload some pictures, but my phone has been misbehaving since I dropped it in wet concrete the other day!! -

Afternoon everyone.
Made good progress on the MG this week.
Sand blaster has been pre-warned and all that remains attached to the tub is the gear assembly and the final drives.
Anyone have any tips how to remove the rear bearing retainer for the PTO? it is unbolted and rocking, just doesnt want to budge off the shaft. -
joegrgraham replied to the topic Ransomes MG2 #551 in the forum Projects 9 years, 7 months ago
Also took off the gearbox top. I think that explains why the steering brake wasnt too good.
And note to self, take phone out of shirt pocket BEFORE peering into the bowels of an oil and water filled gearbox, plop……. -

Got the sprockets off today, courtesy of the Thor hammer. If you ever see one, grab it! It is the most useful hammer i have, it is wood with a metel covering, so its got enough weight to be useful, but is soft enough not to do damage.
