Hi all,
I’m in the process of fixing up a Trusty plough (making one good one out of two wrecks).
What is the correct size for the disc? as I have one large (approx 14″) rotten one and a small one (about 9-10″) that is distorted, so I’ll need to find a replacement.
I will also need to replace the point soon, is there an available replacement?.
Thanks,Joe.

Sean,
Most of the parts are to lock the drawbar into a fixed position.
item 6 is the pin that holds 5 to the main coupling.
8 goes through one of the two holes in the top of 5
16, i think, goes through the end of 12 to hold it to 5. the pin you are missing.
Don’t know where 17 goes.
19 is the pin that goes through the slot in the end of 4 to hold…[Read more] -

Hi Rich,
I cant help you with the engine, but when it comes to perishing tyres, UV rays (sunlight) is the biggest culprit.
It would certainly be better to keep the tyres inside, especially the original ones as they will already be a little more fragile.
In an ideal world, it isn’t really good to leave any machine outside in the elements, just…[Read more] -

Hi all,
Just returned from a weekend in Lincolnshire, acquired a few more Trusty implements. Plough, spud lifter, ridger and the aforementioned cultivator.
The cultivator appears to be all there, but it is seized up.
Before I start pulling it apart, was there a manual produced that shows how the mechanism works?.
If there was, does anyone have a…[Read more] -

At least it’ll save me going to WH Smiths to read the F & HE section! I stopped buying the magazine a while back as it had got far too gimmicky and samey, there are tractors other than Masseys and David Browns!.

I’ve noticed whilst searching for parts for my ZZ (a lot older I know, but bear with me) there is a lot more available in the US. Parts that, over here, you get a blank look from the man behind the counter when you ask for, are widely available over there.
I usually get bits through that infernal auction site, and if you do a bit of searching,…[Read more] -

You beat me to it Sean! 🙂
To follow up from the original thread, I got the bushes from my local bearing company using the numbers quoted by Sean in the old thread.
I had the shoes relined by a local truck mechanic for £15 per shoe.Joe.

Thanks Angus,
When I get a chance, I will have a look at the above. I also have my doubts about how well the float needle is working, as the carb drips fuel from the overflow when the engine is not running, so it obviously is not sealing properly, so maybe it is sticking as well.

Hi Angus,
This is just running light, space is a bit tight, so I want to get it running right before trying to drive it, don’t want to get it stuck in an awkward place! After it has died, it needs to be left for a couple of minutes, then it’ll fire straight up. -

Hi all,
Still having trouble getting my Briggs ZZ engined Trusty running properly.
It starts well, ticks over smoothly, revs up nicely and high speed running is smooth, BUT, as soon as the throttle is closed again, it runs slower and slower until it stalls, and no amount of fiddling with throttle or choke will save it. I’ve fiddled around with the…[Read more] -

I see what you mean about the rod. The support doesn’t appear bent, if it is, it’s a very even bend. The welding on the bumper brackets isn’t the finest I’ve ever seen, so perhaps it’s an on farm repair, or maybe the man at the factory had been on the ale the night before! 🙂
One of those mysteries we’ll never find the answer to. -

Geoff,
Just had a look and the threaded rod is the same length as the others, was the idler tower an optional extra?. The screws are missing due to the previous owner removing the clutch.
Also had a look at the bumpers, bolted up tight, they still slope up, turned over, they slope down. Perhaps they been rewelded at some point. See pics.

Hi Geoff,
The bumpers aren’t bolted up tight yet and have been pushed up. It’s on the list.
I had wondered how the belt pulley was supposed to work! -

Today my Trusty had its maiden voyage. The pic was taken just after.
Still got some jobs to do, the throttle is a bit sticky and not as responsive as I’d like, but a major milestone has been reached.
Thanks to everyone on here for your help and advice to get the old girl this far.Joe

With a few exceptions, the tractor prices in general didn’t seem quite as ridiculous as in previous years.
