Hello Moggyjim
I have seen a cultmate with a car timing belt replacing the original, but finding the right one could be a challenge! Not sure about carb kit, could try Jon Cruse at the mower centre, Hailsham, East Sussex, he has masses of obsolete parts 01320 842477. or Meetens, or Burlen services, see their websites.

Calling all GDSF fans, there are only about 40 days to go until your favourite show starts.
The Club will be having a marquee adjacent to the horticultural working area as usual. But we need some volunteer members to help man the marquee at times during the week, also we would like a few small items to help add some interest the the marquee…[Read more]

Hello Robert.
When I had a chainsaw tarpen flex attachment it was fitted with the shaft which had the twistgrip clutch at the end, most useful if you got the saw jammed or needed to stop the blade in emergency. I would not entertain using the saw attachment without that little clutch unit.Chris

As Stuart says, if there is a lot of lateral movement, the teeth disengage on the axle shaft, maybe one has stripped. You will have to investigate , it is probably remedied quite simply.

Lets hope they keep the current format, as the content and items of interest are superior to T&M
in my humble opinion, I know these mags need adverts but it is rather boring for regular readers to see the same old ads month after month!Let’s hope Tractor and farming heritage is able to survive.

Hello sidevalve.
You could be lucky and find Howard parts still from Standen Engineering, Ely, Cambs. they took on a lot of Howard Spares when Howard/Dowdeswell ceased trading. Or Chester Hudson- tillerparts .com
you are more likely to have to source secondhand parts from a redundant machine. Most agricultural machinery suppliers carry stocks of…[Read more]

hortiman replied to the topic Howard Rotavator but which one ? in the forum Pedestrian operated machines 11 years, 1 month ago
Hi Sweeny-todd
If it is a small machine it could be a bullfinch, fitted with a JAP2A engine,, If it is a much larger machine it could be a 400 they had a JAP 4/3 engine, Gems of course had a JAP option, I cannot think of any other models with JAP engines, unless one has been retro fitted to your machine. A photo would be useful.

hortiman replied to the topic howard but which? in the forum Pedestrian operated machines 11 years, 2 months ago
Hello Moggyjim.
I tend to agree with Charlie, it looks like a Bullfinch, probably retro fitted with the larger Kohler engine, I hope the extra power has not damaged the transmission!! -
