expeatfarmer replied to the topic MG40 Drayton oil problem in the forum Ride-on machines 8 years, 11 months ago
If the engine runs I would start it and run it for a few minutes and then top up the tank, or at least turn the engine over a number of times to fill up the pumps and galleries. Low oil volume will do no harm as it is a dry sump system.

When I was a boy we used to holiday in wales at a village called llyngwrl near Towyn. All the milk for the village was produced on a farm in the centre of the village, bottled on the farm and then delivered to all […]

These tough little crawlers are their own worst enemy, they were so overbuilt that they withstood years of total neglect and yet continued to perform without breaking.

I would also suggest running the machine up on to a couple of boards to keep the tracks off the floor and reduce the risk of the tracks rusting on the contact faces. From experience plugging any larger holes like the exhaust outlet and track support tubes will deter mice from making them a winter home or a food store.

Closing date for entries is 25th September, so far it looks as if there may be 15 machines on display. I think it will be a good weekend, the MERL archives will be present as will Neil Jarrett with spares and Trevor Hopkins with his amazing collection of Ransomes literature. If you have an MG tractor please try and come whatever condition your…[Read more]

expeatfarmer replied to the topic Ransomse MG5 track jam. in the forum Ride-on machines 9 years, 2 months ago
From past misfortune I now use Briggs and Stratton fuel stabiliser in all my petrol machines. Tractor last ran a couple of months ago, tell tale is showing good spark when tractor actually runs just no slow running, prime suspect is slow running jet.

In between moving machines around today to accommodate the skimmer, I tried moving my MG5, firstly it was a pig to start and when it did it would not slow run, I suspect either slow running jet or possibly yet another condenser failure. The main issue was that when I tried to move it the left track was locked solid, no amount of rocking back and…[Read more]

Part of the attraction of the Tractor World Show at Newbury in October is that there will be an outside arena area where the machines will be able to move around.

When rebuilding 137 I took some parts that still retained the original colour to a paint shop with a colour scanner and they matched up to a RAL code I will dig it out. As a very early machine from 1936 I think that the colour changed on later MG 2.

Dave
Ransomes did not make a winch themselves but did supply MG6 ITC and ITW fitted with an inboard Boughton winch fitted under the seat. -

I took 137 and the digger to Hesket Newmarket Show on Saturday it is only 3 miles from where I live and so I literally took the two machines a can pf petrol and a couple of spare spark plugs. 137 behaved admirably but the digger started playing up and being hard to start, the solenoid failed a while ago and as yet i have not replaced it so it was…[Read more]

Orwell Blue is the lighter of the two colours used on MG2 and early MG5. Later machines were painted with Nacton Blue, both named after the factories where Ransomes built them which in turn were named after rivers around Ipswich.
