Graeme the way you describe your oil flow sounds just the way it should be, what you are seeing is the return flow from the galleries. If you are concerned about oil pressure/ flow, slacken one of the pipes next to the starter dog when the engine is running.

It works extremely well the pump has sufficient flow to multi task so that you can crowd and slew at the same time dipper and lift powerful so grading is good. levers are set up the same way as the Volvo mini digger I had so that I did not have to re learn.

Digger has spent most of Easter landscaping in my son’s garden moving and replanting shrubs and trees before moving tons of soil about. I am really pleased with it, it operates just as a mini digger should and has loads of grunt for pushing and back blading. I even have my own service crew!

I use a 3.5 tonne twin axle car transporting trailer which enables me to carry three at a time. I also have a 15cwt box trailer which I have used for 1 machine also a twin axle.

The engine will be a bit smokey especially when cold, excess fuel from starting builds up in the exhaust and manifold which does not help.
A number of things can be done to help reduce smoking, drain any excess oil that has collected in the crankcase as this will be drawn up by the two stroke ( plug in centre of crank case base )clean the gauze…[Read more]

Colortune is a very useful piece of kit ,it is literally a glass topped spark plug that lets you see into the head at the time of firing. It enables you to adjust the slow running mixture to achieve slow and smooth tick over ( shows up blue flame ) but also lets you see the colour and quality of the spark under compression. made by Gunson.

What type of plug cap are you using? some have a high resistance and are not suitable for magnetos that may cause arcing at the points.

Try using a color tune, you
will see spark under compression and quality of mixture.

I spoke to a guy at Pennine Oils asking for an equivalent to the specified oil grades, they have supplied me with a Universal sAE 20 with a high detergent level to keep the sludge in suspension. 20L delivered to my door next morning for 24p per litre!

Sounds like it may be a fuel issue take out the jets and blow them through with an air line.

After sorting an oil leak and manufacturing a set of oak swamp blocks the digger is now finally finished and ready for Malvern next week. I am also taking my Whitlock WR8 which now has a new clutch plate and hopefully works properly. I have also fitted it with swamp blocks and refurbished the engine and engine bay.

I recently heard of a guy that ploughed with an MG6 which he had converted to run on 4 wheels as per the ITW, apparently there were complaints from other ploughmen that his tractor was non-standard.
