  • Hi it’s Will I had another look at the discs and gave them a clean up with a file then some emery cloth trapped between the pads and disc while rotating the disc and they cleaned up pretty well. I took your advice and left the discs in situ I could see a disaster coming and it didn’t seem worth the risk. Got the last reel adjuster free now so it’s…[Read more]

  • Hi it’s Will just a quick update I fitted a new motor Start capacitor and it’s solved the problem. The compressor starts now even when there is pressure in the tank so fingers crossed it is fixed. I would just like to add that if anyone is planning on removing a capacitor take care the capacitor holds a fair whack of electricity if it’s working so…[Read more]

  • Hi Trusty my original thought was that the discs are quite pitted from where it’s been sitting. I put new pads in but was thinking of giving them a light skim on the lathe to perhaps make them work better and so they don’t wear out the new pads. I alight see if I can give them a clean up in situ I have a feeling I will have trouble getting them…[Read more]

  • Hi it’s Will I did consider an extra tensioner but as trusty said it’s likely to upset the other belt. I think it’s time for a new pair of belts but I will check the tension set up again in case I have missed something. On a different note I am going to remove the brake discs it looks like I have to remove the centre nut but is there anything…[Read more]

  • Hi Trusty yes it’s getting there the engine to first pulley is slipping to the Point that if I put it in high transport it just grinds to a halt. I have pushed the engine as far forward as it will go but it still slips so I think it’s new belt time. I’m looking forward to mowing season so I can finally enjoy using it.
    Happy Christmas
    Best wishes William

  • Hi it’s Will just a quick update on the progress with the motor triple. I have finally freed up all the reel adjusters . I made a new grass deflector for the middle unit and got all of the brake calipers free and with new pads. The brake discs are a bit pitted but they are serviceable. I might remove them and give them a light skim on my friends…[Read more]

  • Hi it’s Will thanks for that I will have a look do you know if there was pressure in the line between the head and the tank when your valve was gunged up. There isn’t when I checked mine but I’m wondering if there is an unloader that should stay open untill the motor is up to speed before it starts fill the tank. When I push the switch to the off…[Read more]

  • Hi Charlie the trouble is with my one it won’t restart once the tank loses pressure. When I get it sorted I will let you know what I did.

  • Hi it’s Will I know this is not really the place for such equipment but I thought someone may have experience of air compressors and might be able to help. I have a belt driven air compressor it’s electric powered. The issue is that it turns over a few times but then just hums until the overload cuts out. It will work if the tank is empty or if I…[Read more]

  • Hi it’s Will I think it depends on what you are trying to achieve. I have used them where the blades are an inch wide from wear along the bottom edge and they have worked fine although I think if you are in hard ground you are likely to have them snap off. I would look to see they are still overlapping otherwise they will leave undug strips. The…[Read more]

  • Hi trusty it’s Wiĺl I’m in Colchester Essex. Thanks for the offer of help I can usually work things out but it’s great to have someone who has a lot more knowledge of these machine’s. I worked for about 6 years as a mech technician at an agricultural college . How do you have such a wealth of knowledge of these machine’s if you don’t mind me…[Read more]

  • Hi no need to apologise although the pie and chips with gravy has just made my cheese on toast look a bit dreary. That’s a huge help I have found a sprocket but it only had a part number so couldn’t tell if it was the correct one. The tensioner has had a lump cut out of it to get past the radiused bolt I assume the last person that had a go at it…[Read more]

  • Ok thanks for that sounds quite likely.

  • Hi it’s Will I sorted the walking stick springs so that all works fine . I am doing battle with the reel adjusters at the moment 3 out of 6 now working but the others still seized lots of heat and back and forth is doing the trick. Not sure what those bolts are made of but they reaĺly take some punishment I’m sure the modern ones would have just…[Read more]

  • Hi it’s Will just a quick update on the elusive springs after some poking with a screwdriver I have found the springs they were seized into the tubes unfortunately they are so badly corroded they have lost all their spring one has broken off in the tube so they will need replacing. I have found someone who has some replacements so will order them…[Read more]

  • I guess they could be I can’t see them through the slot in the side of the tube I didn’t let the plunger drop all the way into the tube because I won’t be able to get hold of them to get them out again. I will have a look with my camera on a stick thingy to see if they are as you suggested just stuck down. It does seem odd to have removed both and…[Read more]

  • Hi it’s Will I have a suspicion that the springs may have been removed at some point. Both sides look the same and both plungers have their grooved ends. Not sure why they would be removed but now I can see the diagram and apart from the springs everything else is present and intact. I will see if it’s possible to get hold of a couple of new…[Read more]

  • Hi it’s Will I have used JB weld to glue clutch shoe linings back on for my brushcutter also used it on a Hayter Osprey drive clutch both with good results. I tend to give the metal a rough up to give the glue something to grip to. Fingers crossed for you.

  • Hi it’s Will thank you for your reply the belt tensioner is interesting I tried it with the tensioner on the bottom run thinking it was set up wrong but it seemed to slip a lot when I tried it so I will return it back to the top position it makes sense that you don’t want the tensioner on the pulling side of the belt. It reminds me of my days on…[Read more]

  • Hi it’s Will I am working on a motor triple mk 4 I have recently posted about the seized brakes and recìeved some great advice and now have a working foot brake and soon a working handbrake. I’m trying to get the levers that lift the front cutter heads to work. The metal rods were seized in the tubes but I have removed them now and cleaned them.…[Read more]
