I still use my dad’s old slasher quicker and easier than getting the strimmer out. But no way am I going to start digging the veg plot, Simar, Trusty, Monrotiller or Barford Atom for that job.

Andy, thanks, I had already spotted that. Bit of a gamble as they made so many different engines.

Had a look on their website, current issue didnt seem to have it in unless online version is not full magazine or you have a different issue.

Alan, thanks, I have some information which I found in the material the club has from Mechanised Gardening.

I find the only way to be sure of setting timing correctly on these engines is to remove head to measure position of piston.

One other problem I had was identifying what model of Clinton engine it was. The plate with that information is missing. After a bit of research on the internet I found it stamped in the cowling it just needed the paint carefully removing. I now know it is a 498.
