I’ve started restoring my BMB Cultmate (see separate topic in projects) this machine has a BSA engine which runs beautifully , however looking at the carburettor I can see a hole now I’m just wondering is the hole supposed to be there or whether it’s missing something. Does anyone know for sure , it runs fine but does seem to leak an awful lot so…[Read more]

You’re more than welcome to measure the side panels at Malvern. I’ve started clearing the rust off the panels and zinc primering them after clean up.

Thank you Joe that is a brilliant piece of literature to go with my machine. I apologise if I’m mistaken but I purchased a Weeks dusting machine from a franktonpaget would you by any chance be the same gentleman?

I have just started the restoration of this BMB Cultmate with BSA engine. It runs beautifully usually on the first pull. So I’m hoping it’ll just be a case of a good clean and some paint. I’m hoping to have this finished for Tractorworld in February.

bish started the topic Engine pulleys in the forum Help and information 10 years, 9 months ago
Ive managed to acquire a Villiers 12 to put in the Hoemate I’m restoring. The engine I’ve bought currently has no pulley on it, the Hoemate drives off a belt from the engine to the gearbox. Am I best getting a pulley off internet auction sites or is there anywhere where they’re available off the shelf? Also does anyone know what size pulley I’d…[Read more]

I’ve been looking at getting an engine for the Hoemate I’m restoring and have managed to find a decent Villiers mk 10. This engine I believe is rated at 1hp and the brockhouse engine that should be fitted is 1-3/4 hp. Would this underpowered engine still work ok in a Hoemate or am I better holding out for a bigger engine?

Hi I’m looking at picking up a Trusty seat attachment and was wondering how heavy it is? I have a large hatchback car and was wondering if a car would carry the weight? I don’t want to hire a van if I don’t need to? Thanks Rich

Hi I’ve just become a full member and as a result I can now read the last issues of The Cultivator. I notice in the last issue we’re putting a display on at the Vintage Gathering at Astwood bank which I will be visiting on Sunday. Now there’s a phone number in the magazine for the event, is it merely a case of phoning that number or have I left it…[Read more]

bish started the topic Seized Engines scrap or usable? in the forum Help and information 11 years ago
I’m looking at starting to restore my Goodwood motor cultivator but one thing stopping me is the engine. The Villiers 25 that’s on it is seized solid. As I see it I have 2 options either replace the engine for a working one or unseize and free off the original one. Ideally I’d want to keep the original engine but how likely is it that if I get it…[Read more]

I’m collecting a Trusty next week which is running I’ve been to view the machine and seen the engine run. I should have asked whilst I was there but I forgot and I was hoping someone on here could tell me what the two handles clipped to the handles do? I’m guessing one engages drive from engine to wheels , but what does the other one do? Thanks again Rich

I’ve just got hold of a Ransomes Vibro Hoe and everything works great on it but I can’t seem to get to stand up. It always seems to want to lie on its side. Theres a bumper at the front that moves up and down, is this a stand? Or is it a case of leaning it against something? Has anyone got a better clue than I have?

As mentioned previously I originally bought this hoemate to restore as is however on purchasing another one with even better tin work and mint rubber wheels I’ve decided to restore this so it looks the part but I will await the purchase of some spaded wheels and a suitable engine to get it running. The original engine from this one shall go into…[Read more]
