alan replied to the topic Identifying a powered barrow help. in the forum Help and information 3 years, 5 months ago

Thanks to other knowledgeable people, the power barrow was made by Wage Trucks LTD hence the WT logo. There is an address of Kelly Bray, Callington, Cornwall. They later became Trac Grip.

I have looked through archives and newspaper adverts and cannot find any reference to a TW (or WT) Powerbarrow. It could be a production machine as the TW logo plate looks genuine.

Where on the machine is the TW logo, is it on the engine, chassis or rear body?

There are some numbers written in pen on our Mountfield that relate to the drive belts.

The deck belt is an A80.

The drive belt numbers are 13X2032LI and also A2062LD. They may be of some help.

I have scanned the maintenance document as a PDF. It explains how to change the drive belt – it looks a bit fiddly and requires looping the belt over the gear lever etc!

The part number is 37X31. The catalogue doesn’t say what length it is and our tractor isn’t with us at present to measure it.

The tractor was made by Murray Power products, Ohio, so it’s possibly a Murray 37xX1 belt. There’s some online.

alan replied to the topic 1974 Briggs and Stratton 10hp in the forum General talk and discussion 3 years, 5 months ago

I made the first offer and the seller readily accepted so there was no haggling to be done, if Yorkshire-style haggling had been involved then I’d have ended up with the engine for £2.50. But I’ve now frightened myself thinking that I offered too much and I’ve given away precious funds! Next time I venture southwards I’m going to be very wary!

The instruction manual says “Your unit has a single clutch/brake pedal that operates both the clutch for changing gears and the brake. Fully depress the clutch/brake pedal to stop your unit.”

Indeed, your machine seems to be operating the wrong way around!

The transmission belt goes past a pulley that’s connected to the pedal. Is the belt the…[Read more]

I have recently been away and acquired a new but old stock 10hp Briggs & Stratton electric start engine dated 1974, it still has the maintenance and warranty tag attached. I’m sure there are many other unused engines stashed away in various sheds or business premises, but I thought I would buy this one as it is distinctive in the gold-type…[Read more]

alan replied to the topic P J Bryant greenhouse heaters in the forum General talk and discussion 3 years, 7 months ago

There are various online references to P. J. Bryant of Forest Road, Fishponds, Bristol from the 1950s to the 1980s. Some adverts also refer to pond heaters and equipment. I wonder if Bryant were a retailer selling rebranded items rather than a manufacturer?

Excellent that the text helps with your roller.

The R.F.S. on the roller is probably one of the directors who was R.F.Seymour.

I also see that Dennis mowers bought the design rights to Seymour sports ground rollers of Derby from the Castwell Foundry.

I found a description of an RFS roller from 1963, does this sound like it might be it?

“Seymours Castwell Foundry LTD., Raynesway, Spondon, Derby, produce this fully powered roller developed from the ‘Ogle’ hand roller. The cast iron double cylinder, 24-inch diameter by 24-inch wide, has well-rounded edges and front and rear scrapers are standard…[Read more]

alan replied to the topic The Gamage Garden Roller circa 1924 Approx in the forum Help and information 3 years, 9 months ago

Research on Gamages a while back showed that the rollers may have been made by a local foundry and possibly some could have come from Thomas Green & Sons – although this irrelevant piece of info doesn’t get your roller apart!

Can I ask, how it has been dated to circa 1924?

Re photos size, I’ll add that using the in-built Snipping Tool in Windows is a good way to reduce the data size of photos. It can be found by searching for Snipping Tool through the Windows start menu. Once the cursor has been dragged around the photo or relevant area that you want, then it can be saved with a suitable filename.

Each December for the last few years the website has had twelve questions relating to vintage garden machinery and tools, we have done the same for 2021.

They don’t take too long to go through, see how many you can get correct. A few weeks ago I asked three Guinea pigs to go through the questions. Guinea pigs 1 and 2 didn’t do too well and…[Read more]
